Tears Or Smiles?
This is a rainy Saturday morning. Here I am, sitting with my cup of coffee, gazing out at a dripping world. A trip to the mountains with the evangelist is out. Having my son, nephew, and son-in-law over to finish work on the new fence is out. The planned high school senior's car wash and yard sale has been canceled, too.
At my dining room table, glancing to my left, I see a booklet. Examining it, I find myself a little amused. Who woulda thought that in my home I'd find a booklet, 101 Age Remedies? Yet, there it is. It says further, "A Guide To Reversing the Aging Process." Ha, ha! What a mockery!
Such a commentary on life! Plans are made only to be broken; our time has its boundaries - "a time to be born and a time to die," says Solomon. Let's just mourn and cry over it; here, take this Kleenex. In his mourning and lamentations, Job said, "Oh, if I could just have died while yet in my mother's womb!"
Whoa! What is that I hear? Across the room I hear a twittering sound! It's that new canary, swinging and singing on his little perch. A little ray of sunshine on a drab, gray day. So, I think I'll just switch on the tuner and pick up some music. Here's Mom now, refreshing my cooling cup of coffee. And, tomorrow's Sunday! Prospects of happiness and joy with the saints are in the offing.
There are always myriad and many thoughts, sights and sounds all around us. It's our choice what we choose to focus on! God gave us all a mental tuner - our minds - to pick up or tune out at will. Doesn't the Scripture say "as he (a man) thinketh.so is he?" Remember Elder Cavaness telling us how he wept at a Mother's Day Service, only to remember his mother was still alive and well? To himself, he had said, "dummy, what are you crying for?"
Remember: "Tis not the gale, but the set of the sail." Now, throw that Kleenex away and quit being so pessimistic - God lives and all is well!
