THE MIGHTY GOD IS JESUS! Part 4
Since the works of Karl Barth and Paul Tillich, which seem to have been largely ignored, amazingly little serious effort has been made in modern theology to clarify the glaring disparity that exists between the one God so clearly enunciated in the Old Testament, and the generally accepted triune God of the New Testament. Again, no doubt the crux of the problem lies in the misunderstanding of the original nuances of the term "person." This has lead to the belief that God exists as three intellects, or minds, which borders on idolatry. The unfortunate result is confusion. The average mind, conjuring up three intellectual beings, can easily assume that God is polytheistic - existing as three distinct and separate gods. Literally, a Divine committee.
pSuch confused ideology give rise to the reasonable question: "To whom should I pray - the Father, the Son, or to the Holy Ghost?" Of course, such an idea is untenable, being totally without scriptural merit. It rejects the Jewish Shema on which the message of the entire Bible is founded: "Hear Ye O' Israel, the Lord our God is One." It also rejects the claims of our Lord Jesus: "I and my Father are one." Jesus is God manifested in the flesh, the exact image of His very substance! 6 There could be no greater affront to the Jehovah of the Old Testament, who held such a consistent and vehement contempt for idolatry, than for Satan to foist and foster the idolatrous notion of "three distinct and separate" gods upon the New Testament church! It could only be characterized, "The Mother of all Lies!"
