Calvary Apostolic Church’s Christmas play in 2009 was OUT OF THIS WORLD!
We were privileged to have Brother Terry Vik to work with our young
people for two weeks in preparation for
“Christmas on the Moon,” that he both
wrote and directed. The youth enacted
the importance of keeping
a life focused on Jesus Christ in the midst of things
that could distract us from Him.
The stars, Sister Danielle Porquis and Brother Sam Diaz,
arrived on various planets via a
custom-built rocket by Brother Dominick
Porquis. “Saturnites” were tempted to desire money over giving to others,
“Jupiterites” were obsessed with useless learning, “Marcians” were concerned
about constructing buildings
simply for the sake of building, the lives of
“Neptunians” were absorbed in their entertainment.
The planetary sets were
inspired by our Academy children and made into life-sized props by our resident artist,
Brother Adam Stewart. Concepts of the scenes were emphasized by songs from the
Praise & Worship singers and tiny stars, the pre-schoolers. Always a
highlight, the dowel rod team enacted
“One Wintery Night,” and “The End of the
Beginning,” with a superb performance by Brother Adrian Elias.
On both nights,
the youth’s drama presented a good reminder that living for the Creator,
who
came to this planet to be our Savior, should be the reason for everything we
do.
